Sean Hill is a campaign management, strategy, leadership skills and community festival organization specialist.
His electoral campaign management, consulting and staff experience spans the past 11 years, 35 campaigns and 50 candidates for federal, provincial, city council, public and catholic school board and park board office in Toronto, Vancouver, Hamilton and Northern Ontario. He has managed an Ontario-wide, party leadership campaign and a city-wide municipal party campaign in Vancouver.
For Stratagem, Sean has led an education campaign in BC’s Lower Mainland on the Canadian seal hunt.
Sean also has 8 years of experience in municipal government as the Executive Assistant to a Toronto City Councillor who served as chair or vice-chair of committees such as the Board of Health, Toronto Transit Commission, Community Development and Recreation, World Youth Days 2002, Disability Issues and the Ethics Steering Committee.
While at Toronto City Hall, Sean led important, high-profile issue campaigns which yielded the creation of a pesticide by-law for private lawns (that later informed the province wide legislation), a City-wide smoking by-law for restaurants and bars, a city-wide drive thru by-law, light rail transit expansion on St. Clair West, the “green, yellow and red” restaurant health disclosure system.
From his time at City Hall, Sean acquired an extensive knowledge of community festival organizing, city planning, rezoning, avenue studies and committee of adjustment processes, as well as strategies to best develop small business and retail corridors and community development and heritage restoration projects.
He also played an important organizing and political role for the annual Caribana Festival. For 8 years, in his role as the Executive Assistant to the City Council Liaison to Caribana, and this year as an intergovernmental and political consultant for the Festival Management Committee, the organizers of Scotiabank Caribana.
Sean’s experience as a leadership workshop facilitator and campaign trainer includes working with Toronto and York Region Labour Council supported municipal candidates and campaign teams, the Ontario NDP, Vancouver’s Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE), and three years and over 100 ethnically diverse candidates and organizers from across the GTA, as part of the Maytree Foundation’s “School 4 Civics”. His specialty is leading campaign teams and candidates to construct their strategic plan and refine their campaign narrative.
Sean has a theatre background and education. He was educated at York University, as part of its Directing program and enjoyed a successful 10-year professional career as a theatre director, performer, writer and company manager with shows throughout Toronto and Ontario and Canadian cities and towns including Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Montreal.
